My Medicare Matters

For the National Council on Aging, the introduction of the pharmacy benefit in the Medicare program presented an opportunity to help America's seniors get prescription drug coverage. The target audience required that information and help be delivered to them in their communities. As part of the nationwide team for "My Medicare Matters" KWA Public Relations worked for nine months to generate media coverage and present educational events in Michigan and Ohio. At these events, trained Medicare benefit educators met one-on-one with seniors to review their Medicare Part D options and help them make enrollment decision. Results of this program included nearly 1,300 community-based education events throughout the two states and more than 7.5 million media impressions. News coverage included local, regional and national outlets, including an NBC Nightly News story originating in Nelsonville, Ohio. During the course of the campaign, "My Medicare Matters" partnered with 136 local and community leaders and organizations, developing a network of knowledable and creditable "ambassadors" for the program. The national program earned a Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Sociey of America.
